WORSHIP WITH CHILDREN

Children are important and loved parts of God's family and can understand, contribute, and enrich congregational worship. We want to teach children the importance of having a life committed to prayer and worship. To accomplish this objective, we must allow our children to observe our faith in action.

Virtually all children have a period of vulnerability when they will believe almost anything they have been taught. This time period is between the ages of one and six years old. If we allow those years to pass by without any religious training, they will be less likely to embrace spiritual concepts and behaviors. That's why the Bible instructs us to "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

Here are some suggested ways that you can help your child get the most out of worship services:

1. Enter the church as a family. Introduce your child to the adults you greet

2. Sit close to the front so your child can see easily.

3. Pick up a children's bulletin for your child and show him some key points to think about.

4. Show him the adult bulletin and select one or two words or parts of worship to explain so he can look for those areas of emphasis. For example: Look up the scripture with him and mark the place so you can follow along together at the appropriate time in the service.

5. Encourage your child to participate by standing and sitting along with others during worship. Let him help hold the hymnal.

  • An opportunity to come together as a corporate body-in a large family -to experience God
  • A time to sing hymns and songs of praise
  • A time to reflect and listen upon what God is saying to you personally through anthems or special music.
  • A time to pray as the body of Christ for the church as a whole, for world and community issues, for individuals, and for personal concerns.

  • A time to witness and be a part of the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.

  • A time to quietly listen to God's message as shared from our pastor.

  • A place for all ages to participate.

  • A blessing to leave with and a challenge to go out in the world and be a light for Christ.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

MINISTRY FOR CHILDREN

Here at Chestnut Street United Methodist we offer an environment where children can come together and learn about God . Out teachers are dedicated and inspire our children each week with a variety of Bible based activities. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends at 10:40 a.m.

If your child has not experienced the joy of attending A class, please make every effort to provide this wonderful opportunity for him.

SUNDAY SCHOOL PROVIDES:

  • A small group interaction and a chance to make new friends and relationships.
  • Age appropriate Bible teaching and life application lessons.
  • A chance to love and care for others in your class

Why would you choose to just give your child part of what God has to offer them? We lobby for the best schools, the best teachers, we will pay for the best education...It is so important to offer them the best opportunities with sports and the arts.. Why would we shortchange our children with the most precious gift we could ever give them...a solid faith foundation!!
