BFF Report ...Mary Anna Gray

The final tally for the three phases of the BFF at this point is $40,882.77. Thanks to all who gave of their time, talents, or money to any phase of the BFF. Some of you were involved in all three phases. MANY THANKS!

Please remember that as we enjoy the use of the educational building, Wesley Hall, the covered passage to the sanctuary, we also continue to make monthly payments of $9,693.52. These structures were the last phase of our building program. There are several years left to make payments on the loan. We seek innovative ways to help make these payments.

We still have the Habersham bedroom suit (3 pieces). If you are interested please contact me (or the church office) before Christmas. After Christmas I plan to pursue selling it on ebay or consignment at an antique shop.

CHRISTMAS ANGEL TREE

The first two Sundays in December, the 2nd & 9th , we at CSUMC will have the opportunity to help a needy child or children through RCC&CC. Each angel on the Angel Tree in our sanctuary will be a representation of your monetary gift to a child this Christmas. You have the option of giving $25.00 or whatever you can give to provide Christmas gifts for a child. This is a wonderful way to share God’s love for all of us. Please plan to take an angel or two home from our little tree. Make your check payable to CSUMC. All monies will go to RCC&CC in order to buy toys, clothes, food, etc. for needy children. Thank you for your support of this annual program

ANGEL BREAKFAST

Something new is happening for our young children here at Chestnut St. UMC! On Sunday morning, December 16 at 8:00 a.m. there will be an ANGEL BREAKFAST. Mrs. Sharon Bell and friends will prepare a special breakfast and program for all children preschool thru first grade. Invitations will be sent very soon so please remember to respond if your child can attend. All will be dressed like angels (costumes provided) and the rumor is that one of our own adult angels will visit and share with the children about when Mary was visited by an angel before Jesus was born. Parents may bring their children to the Education building first floor and find the "Angel room." In Asbury Hall there will be a breakfast prepared by the United Methodist Men and parents of "angels" may attend that meal. The Angel breakfast will conclude in time for your family to attend 8:45 Hearts on Fire worship service.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

The United Methodist Women Executive Committee will have a short meeting on December 2 at 4:00 p.m. in the conference room. This is an open meeting, and all members of UMW are encouraged to attend.

CIRCLE MEETINGS

6:00 p.m. Circle 4 Christmas Party - Wesley Hall

"On-the Spot" Christmas Pageant

Our 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve service will feature an impromptu Christmas pageant. No rehearsals, no speaking parts! What is needed is willing participants young and old to act out with silent movements the Christmas story. You may wear your own designed costumes to fit your choice of character or you may select a costume that we will provide for you to wear. Here is how it will work: In the parlor there will be a variety of costumes for your choosing. Come a few minutes early to make your selection. As the Christmas story is read the narrator will give directions as to who is to come and find their place at the manger. That character or characters will remain there until the story is complete (if possible). It will be fine to have more than one of each character. Suggestions for costumes: animals in manger, shepherds, wise men, angels.

A Round of Applause

So many people have told me that they cannot get to our web page. Now more that ever, it would be good to learn how to do this since our newsletter is being published only once a month. When you go on line, simply type in www.chestnutst.org and hit enter. The first or second web link that is shown will say Welcome to Chestnutst UMC. If you click on this link, it should take you directly to our page. Two things to remember: use st instead of street and use .org instead of .com. After you have reached our page, if you scroll down until you find the different programs, etc. listed, choose the one you want and click on it. For example, if you are interested in the Nutshell click on the word Nutshell. It is this simple. May I suggest that you put an icon on your desktop or our web site. To go this, after you have the web page up and running, right click anywhere and a drop down will appear. Click on create a shortcut and ok it. The icon will appear on the desktop screen and this will take you to our web page. I hope this helps you find our page. Mary Lamm, Communications Chair

Angela Sumner

Just wanted to say THANKS for all the help with this year’s Trick or Trunk!!!!! Wow, I think we had over 300 people to pass through our parking lot; we gave out all 100 goodies bags with a message from our church and scripture.

I don’t know how many cars we had participate but I would guess around 20-30 - that was a great response!!! Having a Progressive Trick or Trunk made it safe, fun, and added lots of visitors to our church family for the evening.

Special thanks to:

The Education Committee who headed up the organization and cooking of the hotdog supper.

The Golf Committee who contributed over 100 coupons for our goodie bags.

Everyone who decorated and gave out goodies, everyone who dressed up and Trick or Treated, and those who helped in other capacities. God is good!

2007 ADVENT NOONDAY PRAYER AND MUSIC

Advent is a season of anticipation which begins four Sundays before Christmas Day on December 25. During Advent we look forward to the celebration of Christ’s coming to our world as we remember again his birth. We use this time to prepare ourselves spiritually by attending worship, reading the Bible and spending time in prayer. For Christians, it is also a time to remind ourselves to be awake for Christ’s second coming to our world. Despite the busyness of the commercial holiday season, we invite you to take these moments during Advent to seek Christ for your life and your home.

Trinity Episcopal Church cordially invites you to their 2007 Wednesday Advent Noonday prayers and inspirational music. On December 5, Jon Lloyd, Director of Youth Ministry and Assistant Music Director at First Presbyterian Church in Lumberton, will present a musical program and accompany himself on the guitar. December 12, the Lumberton High School Concert Choir, directed by Kelly Britt, will perform. The final musical program on December 19 will be Louine Holloway, Soloist from Godwin Heights Baptist Church. Each service will begin at 12:05 at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 1202 North Chestnut Street. Please join us for these moments of spiritually uplifting worship. A Soup and Sandwich lunch will be served in the Parish Hall following the music presentations.

HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY

to Ms. Mildred Lee on 12/30/07. She is a Chestnut Street member and current resident of Wesley Pines Retirement Home.

THANK YOU

To the Chestnut Street UMC family, I would like to say "thank you" for the many times you said your prayers to include Harold and me during his illness and death. -Betty Sessoms Nicholson

CHILDREN’S ADVENT WREATHS

On Sunday, December 2, 2007, the first Sunday in Advent, our children will present their wooden Advent wreaths in the 11:00 worship service. They have decorated them for family devotionals at home. Don’t miss this special presentation as part of our Advent celebration.

THE CELEBRATION BEGINS

The first Sunday in Advent is December 2, 2007. Our worship service will begin with the lighting of the first Advent Candle on our brass Advent Wreath. Our young people will participate in the Hanging of the Greens in our sanctuary, and our beautiful Chrismon Tree will be lit to show the symbols of the Early Church. Let us join together in worship and praise to God, thanking Him for the greatest gift of all –His Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ!

Poinsettias will be placed in the sanctuary for morning worship on Sunday, Dec.16 & 23. If you would like to provide one in honor or in memory of a special person/persons, please fill out the form below and return with a check to the church office or put it in the offering plate.
