My Life in Ghana (June Newsletter)

It’s hard to believe, but I’ve just spent my last full month in Ghana.  The next time I’ll be writing to you I’ll be back in the States!  Considering I have only 18 more days left here in Ghana.  However, these last days are going to be filled with a lot of things going on.  I can’t give them all away because then what will I be able to write to you all for the shortened July Newsletter?
With all of that said, here’s what has been going on in Ghana for the month of June.  The students at BCA are working hard and striving to do their best to finish this 4th Quarter strong and finish the school year out right.  The students have been better because they know that they need to finish their goals and not procrastinate these last few days.  We’ll be starting back to school on Wednesday because there is a national holiday on Tuesday, and Awards Night will be July 10th, so time is ticking as to the amount of days left for school.
Something we do as a household is scripture memory work, in which you have 4 verses to memorize throughout the week from the book of the Bible you’re memorizing.  Since I’ve gotten here, I’ve been memorizing 1 Thessalonians.  You memorize 4 verses and as you finish a chapter, that’s your memory chapter and you continue going and have a new memory chapter after every new chapter.  On June 7th I finished quoting all of 1 Thessalonians!  But, I was done yet.  Mr. H wanted gave me 2 weeks after that and I was to quote all of 1 Thessalonians, 5 Chapters, 84 verses total.  So on June 21st I was able to quote all of 1 Thessalonians!  I give all the praise to God for allowing me to memorize this book, as it was my first book of the Bible to memorize.  It definitely won’t be the last though.  The reason I’m saying this is because I want to encourage all of you to memorize a book of the Bible, let alone start memorizing His word, because it’s so important for us ALL to hide His word in our heart!
On the 22nd those of us at the house went to encourage the brethren in Sunyani.  Sunyani is the place where the Hostetters first came to in Ghana to start their work.  It was a really great time being able to travel and see the church and school there.  I was able to lead a communion meditation about what manner we’re taking the Lord’s Supper in.  Whether we’d take it like the Church in Corinth (1 Cor. 11:20-22) or like the first true church, in Acts (Acts 2:42,46).  A couple of days later, Mrs. H and Alyssa (volunteer here in Ghana, and who had been helping the Christian school in India for 2 months) returned from India, so it was really good to have both of them back here at the house.
A couple of days ago, on the 28th, the BCA boys and girls both played in a basketball tournament at UST.  Jeremiah (Mr. H’s son) set up the tournament and it was a great time being able to see the students play there best and give it their all.  The girls won the tournament, while the boys ended up getting 3rd while playing some of the best teams on the Ashanti Region.  I was also able to ref some games, which is always fun with players and coaches questioning calls and what not, but it is fun being out there.
Well, that’s all that has been going on here in Kumasi, Ghana for the month of June.  It has gone by a lot faster than expected, and I can imagine these last few days in July will go by even faster!  July is going to be jam packed full of things going on.  This Thursday night, the N.C. Group (Connie, Beth Ann and others will be arriving in Kumasi)!  It’ll be a great time of encouragement and allowing them to see the work in Ghana, Awards Night on the 10th, George and Alyssa’s wedding on the 11th, trip to the game reserve on the 13th, traveling to Togo and coming back to Ghana to fly out on the 18th!  Like I said earlier, July is going to be a busy time here in Kumasi.  With all of that said, I hope you’re all doing great in the Lord and I can’t wait to tell you all about when I get back, either in person, or through the July Newsletter.

Prayer Request:

- Students and Staff to finish the 4th Quarter STRONG!

- N.C. Groups travel and safety arriving here.  They leave Wednesday and will be getting into Ghana at 5:10 p.m. on the 3rd.  Then they will be picked up and travel at night to arrive here hopefully between 11 p.m.-12 a.m.

- Everything that will be going on in July!

- Mrs. H’s knee surgery recovery

- Mr. and Mrs. H’s trip to India and to the States

- Safe travel for the N.C. Group and I on the 18th, and arriving back in the States on the 19th.

- What God wants me to do when I get back!  I’ve been praying for something to open up at ECU (International Studies), so I can study with guys in CCF, be more involved in things going on at Christ’s Church and just totally be used by Him in conversations with people and teaching the Truth to them!

Thank you all again for all your constant prayers and support.

In Christ,

Travis
