The United Methodist Womens Purpose
The organized unit of United Methodist Women (UMW) shall be a community of
women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons
through JESUS CHRIST; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to
expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the
church.
MEMBERSHIP is for those who wish to organize through giving, prayer, study,
action, or service. One becomes a member by expressing a desire to belong and
participate in the global mission of the church through UMW. Membership can be
expressed in one or more of the following ways:
- Attending circle and UMW general meetings
- Supporting local and global missions through study, participation, and
giving
- Intercessory prayer
- Participating in programs, events and projects focusing on the needs and
concerns of women and children
- Accepting leadership responsibility
- Using the prayer calendar, reading the "Response" magazine and
participating in the reading program
BENEFITS for those joining UMW include the following opportunities:

UMW Circles
Chestnut Street UMCs UMW is comprised of eight different circles. Below is
a list of circles, approximate meeting dates, and current chairperson. Please
consider becoming a member of a circle. For more information, call one of the
chairpersons listed below or Angela Sumner, Membership Chairperson.
Circles take turns meeting at Wesley Pines Retirement Center.
- Sunday at 6:15 pm Women's group
- Tuesday at 12:00 noon Men's group
- Tuesday at 5:30 pm Men's and Women's group
- Wednesday at 12 noon Women's Group

- Based on a photograph of the church, the UMW hired Riddle and Cockrell of
Burlington, NC to create these wonderful afghans for sale to raise money for
the Acoustical renovation of Asbury Hall.
